Holiday Gift Guide

Trainer upgrade

Tons of trainers are currently on sale right now, Zwift has some on their site: https://www.zwift.com/shop/category/cycling-gear. Dcrainmaker has a great list of trainers, and other cycling accessories that are on sale. Many trainers were on sale for the REI sale, but the sale ended 2 days ago. Here is a link to his list: https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2021/11/big-sports-tech-sales-start-garmin-fenix-6-series-200-off-plus-tons-more-big-deals.html/.

Rocker Plate

Rocker plates are pretty expensive, and can cost more than your trainer itself. This is yet another investment that will make your indoor training a lot more realistic. One very popular rocker plate is the KOM cycling rocker plate, but it is quite pricey. Here is a link to the rocker plate: https://komcycling.com/products/rocker-plate-rpv1

A new fan

Every indoor cyclist wants a more powerful fan to keep them cool during workouts. I highly recommend looking into the Lasko High Velocity Fan. We own two of them and they work great. You can turn them on and off if you own a smart plug. If you are looking for a smart fan, I would recommend looking into the Wahoo Kickr Headwind. Here is a comparison between two fans, the Lasko High Velocity Fan and the Vornado 630: https://zracecentral.com/2021/07/02/lasko-high-velocity-fan-vs-vornado-630/.

Trainer desk/tablet holder

The Wahoo Kickr desks was one of the first trainer specific desks, but other companies like KOM cycling, and others have created very similar desks, but at a lower cost. We do not use computers often for Zwift, but when we do, we still just use a music stand that we flip to make it a flat surface. It works great for iPads/tablets, and is OK if you are using a laptop. https://komcycling.com/products/indoor-media-display

Steering device

Steering devices have become very popular over the past year on Zwift. Many of the smart bikes now have in-game steering, like the Wahoo Kickr Bike. The Elite Steerzo is currently on sale at the Zwift website. The steering device allows you to steer around the roads of Zwift, which provides a more realistic feel for the ride.

Riser device

The Elite Rizer was released a few months back, the Elite Rizer features the ability to raise your bike up and down, and it also has steering built in. The Wahoo Kickr Climb also features the ability to rise up and down, but does not have steering included. These devices are both compatible with many training apps such as RGT, Zwift, Rouvy, and more. These devices will take your indoor training to a whole new level, literally.

Heart Rate Monitor

This is a must have for any Zwift racer, or any rider who likes to track their heart rate. Many races make wearing a heart rate monitor required, and if you don’t, it can lead to disqualification. I own the Polar H9, and it has worked great for me, but other very well rated heart rate monitors include the Wahoo Tickr and the Garmin HRM Dual.
