Zwift Update September Released 1.29

Today is game release day! The latest game release is now available on Mac, PC, Android and iOS.

Overview

Zwift has just released version 1.29. This is the September monthly game release and it included a few new things. This was by far the biggest update that we have seen in a very long time. The release included handcycles, new levels, and new workout UI. There were also a few minor updates added in this release.

With the recent “This Season on Zwift” released, Zwifters are now eager for some new features. Zwift has promised to deliver those features (hopefully) by the end of the year.

New Levels

Zwift added levels 51-60 in this game release! Riders who are already level 50 will get double XP until they reach the level they should have been at. Zwift also announced that they will be adding new levels for runners this winter. I suspect that this will be released in either the December or January game release.

New Homescreen Updates

The new home screen now remembers your last few pace partner rides. The display of events now has rounded edges!

New Workout UI

The new workout UI is more intuitive and easy to use. There are more features coming soon to this home screen.

New wheels

Cadex Tri // Level 42, 1,029,500 Drops

Zwift Handcycle // Level 1, 0 Drops. The Zwift Handcycle is extremely aero, but very slow on the climbs. It is automatically unlocked for all users. Zwift also has a handcycle club for those who want to join the club. Just search “Handcycle” in the club tab and it should show up.

Forums release notes

Zwift also released a few minor changes/features. Ride-on bombs(the ability to give ride ons to 5 riders around you) are now allowed in group rides. This will make Thumberstorms a lot more fun and easy for Zwifters during group rides. It will be fun to test this out in an upcoming grpup ride that I am leading here: https://www.zwift.com/events/view/3135383. The Anvil power up is now smarter. Users will not be able to use the power up on a gradient of less than -1.5%. This will ensure that newer Zwifters(or less experienced Zwifters) don’t misuse this power up.

Here are the release notes from the forums:

  • Fixed a few issues with automatic screenshots, such as empty event results being automatically captured and uploaded.
  • Fixed bug where “this ride’s” critical power curve was sometimes scaled differently than historical critical power curve, making comparing the two impossible.
  • Reduced volume on runners’ footsteps.
  • Various other fixes and improvements.

My thoughts

Over the past few releases, Zwift has been getting better and better at making sure the game releases are bug free. I am looking forward to seeing the new features released to the public, and stay tuned for more Zwifty content!
