One of the most important parts of your pain cave is going to be your fan. No matter what temperature your pain cave is, it is crucial to have air flow to keep you cool. However, you can literally step into any department store and find hundreds of different fan options – this guide will help you narrow it down to the best fans for Zwift.
1. Lasko High Velocity Fan // Overall Top Pick
The Lasko High Velocity Fan is simply an amazing choice when it comes to indoor cycling. While you could get a similar fan by purchasing the Wahoo Kickr Headwind, it’s unreasonable to be spending $200+ on a fan. The Lasko High Velocity might not be as smart, but it certainly is just as powerful.
There are lots of adjustable pieces to the Lasko High Velocity Fan. The height, strength, and location can all be changed very easily. This fan also comes at a fraction of the cost of the Kickr Headwind. Essentially, you can pick up 5 of these fans for the price of one Kickr Headwind. Sweet deal, eh?
One of the best investments we have made in our indoor cycling setup is the addition of an Amazon Alexa + Kasa Smart Plugs. There are dozens of smart plugs on the market, but our personal favorites are the Kasa Smart Plugs. These can easily be connected to Alexa so that all you have to do is holler, “Alexa, turn the fan on!” With that, your fan will start up and keep you cool for the remainder of your training session. Simple, easy, awesome. This makes this one of the best fans for Zwift.
Don’t want to invest in an Alexa? No worries, you can also pair the smart plug to your phone.

2. Wahoo Kickr Headwind
The Kickr Headwind was released a couple of years ago and remains a fan favorite. The fan is very powerful, but it packs an interesting punch. The Headwind can pair via Bluetooth to your phone and receive data (such as heart rate) and adjust the fan speed accordingly. It’s pretty cool stuff, but it comes at a price.
All of the smart features included with this fan are certainly with it for some people, but whether it is really worth $250+ ultimately comes down to how much you are willing to invest in… well… a fan.
However, there are many who choose to use this fan because they enjoy the fact that it matches the rest of their Wahoo indoor cycling setup. Wahooligans, they say.
3. 9″ Circular Fan
In my eyes, there are really three different types of fans. There are the extremely powerful fans, the smart fans, and the generic fans. As part of our indoor cycling setup, we have a Vornado 673T Circular Fan. The fan is quite powerful and offers an extremely easy-to-use setup. The air that you get from this fan is not quite as targeted as the Kickr Headwind and Lasko High Velocity.
Overall, all three of these fans are great choices, and your decision will ultimately come down to what you are in the market for. These are all amongst the best fans for Zwift.
